CV Second Of 16 Teams In Mat Classic

Central Valley’s wrestling team opened the season with a second-place finish at its Inland Empire Classic tournament.

The Bears had one champion, junior Courtney Brown at 158 pounds, and two second-place finishers, senior Shane Cunanan at 129 pounds and sophomore Tyree Clowe at 190.

Numbers, however, counted, with third-place showings from Jared Ishiguro at 135, Blair Alderman at 168 and Will Beck at 275, along with a fifth and two sixths.

University’s Andy Roberts was champion at 135 pounds and West Valley’s Quinn Sharpe finished second at 122.

East Valley had four third-place finishers and one fourth-placer during the 16-team tourney.

The Bears begin the Greater Spokane League season tonight at Lewis and Clark.

University hosts Gonzaga Prep in a match of defending GSL co-champions, 7:30 p.m.

Titan-Bears game times changed

In order to accommodate a winter dance at University High School, times of Saturday’s Titan-Central Valley basketball game times at Central Valley have changed.

The girls game is at 4:15 p.m. and the boys game follows at 6 p.m.

Mid-winter baseball clinic

John Seefried’s Mid-Winter Baseball Clinic will be at Freeman High School, Jan. 4, from 10 a.m-3 p.m.

Seefried is a 1975 Central Valley High graduate and three-sport all-league athlete.

He played baseball collegiately at Washington State University, setting hitting records, and briefly in the pros.

He has coached at the American Legion, high school and college levels.

Cost of the clinic is $15 a person and includes lunch and T-shirt for those who pre-register.

Cost to register the day of the clinic is $20.
