Japan Recovers 6 Bodies In Slide
Rescuers trudging through tons of mud and heavy snow found six bodies and continued searching today for at least eight others missing after a landslide tore through a dam construction site.
Hundreds of police and firefighters struggled to find the missing construction workers, who were buried Friday when warm rain and melted snow sent mud surging through a narrow river valley.
All 14 workers are thought to have died shortly after they were buried under about 65 feet of mud and rocks along the Gamaharazawa River in Otari village, 125 miles northwest of Tokyo, police spokesman Yoshiro Kitahara said.
