Bible Baptist Church Looking For Just The Right Building Site

Nina Culver Correspondent

A new church has joined the Valley’s religious community.

The Bible Baptist Church first opened its doors in April. Its home, for the time being, is a rented room next to Jazzercise, at 321 S. Dishman Mica Road.

Parishioners now number 25 and there are plans to build a church after suitable property is found. “We’re still looking,” says Pastor Duane Pettipiece. “We just started.”

Pettipiece, who is 63, spent the last 20 years at the Gateway Baptist Church in Las Vegas. The 10 years prior to that were spent in Spokane as a pastor at a Baptist church on the South Hill, which later merged with the Inland Empire Baptist Temple, where he was an associate pastor for three years. Pettipiece says he returned to Spokane because he liked the area and wanted to come back and start a new church.

“I just felt there was a need for an independent Baptist church up here,” he says.

Pettipiece became a pastor 39 years ago after a four-year stint in the Air Force. “I was in the Air Force and the Lord called me to preaching and I surrendered,” Pettipiece says.

Worship at the Bible Baptist Church is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Picnic at St. John Vianney

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a potluck picnic from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John Vianney Church, 503 N. Walnut Road.

The Knights of Columbus will provide beverages and ice cream.

Races and penny hunts will be organized to entertain children, and a volleyball net will be provided. A bingo game will also he held.

The picnic is free and open to St. John’s parishioners and their guests.

Back-to-school potluck

The Gethsemane Lutheran Church will be holding a back-to-school potluck Sunday at 5 p.m. The potluck will be held at the church, located at 11315 E. Broadway.

The potluck is a get-acquainted event for the families who have children attending the Gethsemane School.
