Calf Roper Dies In Car Crash

Professional calf roper Shawn McMullan was killed when the pickup truck he was riding in was struck by a station wagon traveling the wrong way on Interstate 84 in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge.

McMullan, 26, of Iraan, Texas, died in the 3 a.m. Saturday accident. The lone occupant in the station wagon, Dawn Marie Ryba, 28, of White Salmon, Wash., also was killed.

Both vehicles were traveling an estimated 65 mph, according to a press release issued by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

McMullan, 26, finished third in the world standings the past three seasons.

He had career earnings of $511,451.
