The 7.1-mile Falmouth Road Race was the fastest in race history, with the top men’s and women’s winners breaking course records.

Joseph Kimani, 36, of Kenya, won the men’s division with an unofficial time of 31:36. The previous record of 31:52 had been set in 1992 by Benson Masya, also of Kenya.

In the women’s division, Catherine Ndereba, 23, of Kenya, took first place with a time of 35:37. She beat the old record of 36:13 set by Lynn Jennings, of Newmarket, N.H., in 1992.

The record was also broken in the men’s wheelchair division. Defending champion Craig Blanchette, 28, of Cheney, Wash., broke the course record with a time of 24:01. It was his fourth Falmouth victory overall.
