Purvis Gets Grand National Win
Jeff Purvis, realizing he was being outrun, conserved his fuel in the Detroit Gasket 200, and came away with the second NASCAR Busch Grand National victory of his career at Brooklyn, Mich.
Purvis went the final 68 laps of the 100-lap race without a pit stop to edge Kevin Lepage at Michigan International Speedway.
Purvis averaged 161.038 mph to defeat Lepage by .207 seconds.
Spokane’s Chad Little finished 11th.
Tom Kendall was waved past by teammate Boris Said III midway through the Road America Trans-Am Classic and went on to a victory that moved him within two points of series leader Dorsey Schroeder with two events remaining.
At Elkhart Lake, Wis., Kendall, driving a Ford Mustang Cobra for Tom Gloy Racing, earned his fourth victory of the season, matching Schroeder for the most in the series this year.
Also during that race, reports circulated through the Road America paddock that Robby Gordon will leave the Indy-car circuit next season to drive in NASCAR’s Winston Cup series.
