Woman Found Beaten To Death

Associated Press

A 29-year-old woman was found beaten to death in her apartment, police said.

Gwendolin J. Baxter, 29, hadn’t been seen for some time, and a neighbor called police early Friday afternoon to have them check her apartment, said police Sgt. Richard Keller.

He said officers entered the apartment and found Baxter’s unclothed body lying in a hallway. She had been beaten with a hammer.

“It appears our suspect broke into the house and assaulted the victim inside,” Keller said. “He busted the front door open. Yes, he knew her.”

Keller declined to identify the suspect.

He said there appeared to be no evidence of sexual assault. He said Baxter was probably killed Thursday.
