Jazz, Magic Make Trade

The Orlando Magic strengthened their center position by acquiring Felton Spencer from the Utah Jazz for guard Brooks Thompson, forward Kenny Gattison and an undetermined first-round draft pick.

Los Angeles Clippers coach Bill Fitch, who has coached more games than anyone in NBA history and ranks fourth on the league’s all-time victory list, was in stable condition after undergoing triple bypass surgery.

Fitch, 62, underwent the operation late Thursday at the Columbia Conroe Regional Medical Center after experiencing chest pains earlier at his home in Conroe, Texas, the Clippers said.

The Clippers did not make any indication as to Fitch’s coaching future.

Free agent guard Rumeal Robinson, 29, signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Terms were not released.

The Boston Celtics announced the signing of 6-foot-10, 255-pound forward-center Julius Nwosu to a free agent contract.

The 25-year-old native of Nigeria played in 23 games for the San Antonio Spurs during the 1994-95 season.
