Bullets Back In The Picture After Howard’s Deal Rejected

Compiled From Wire Services

Juwan Howard, his contract with the Miami Heat rejected by the NBA, is negotiating with the Washington Bullets in an attempt to rejoin his former team, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

The newspaper, citing an unidentified source, also said the NBA likely will allow the Bullets to exceed the league’s salary cap to re-sign Howard.

Howard became a free agent last month and signed a seven-year, $100.8 million contract with the Heat. But the NBA blocked the contract last week, saying the team exceeded the league’s salary cap.

The two sides will try to work out the problems in arbitration in August.

Bullets manager Wes Unseld said the team was ready to make Howard an offer under the conditions set by the court order, pending the NBA’s approval.
