Brooks Jenkins’ Art Chosen For Arbor Day Button

Brooks Jenkins, a Coeur d’Alene High School student artist, recently had her design selected at the 1996 Arbor Day Button Art Contest sponsored by the Arbor Day Committee.

Jenkins’ design will be featured on the limited-edition 1996 Arbor Day button and a display of the contest finalists will be on exhibition today at West One Bank’s branch office at 302 Sherman Ave.

The following Post Falls fifth-graders were chosen as winners in the Arbor Day Poster Contest: Seltice Elementary - Nicole Keister, Christie Smith and Kari Sims; and Prairie View Elementary - Jolene Redfield, Brandon Beveridge and Brett Caughran.

The schools will receive money for their participation from sponsors, the Post Falls Art Commission and three timber companies.

Missy Rasmussen, Coeur d’Alene, recently won several speech and debate awards in the Pi Kappa Delta regional tournament.

Rasmussen, a student at Northwest Nazarene College, was third in duo interpretation, fourth in drama, eighth in parliamentary debate and 10th in prose interpretation.

Kjelsty Hanson, Rathdrum, received a $16,000 scholarship from the Linfield College art department. The prize was part of the Linfield College academic competitive scholarship program.
