Wings Claim 60th Victory To Tie Record
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings became the second team in NHL history to win 60 games in a season on Wednesday night, matching the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Winnipeg Jets.
The Red Wings have two games remaining in which to break the record. They play Friday at home against Chicago and finish Sunday at Dallas.
But the Red Wings (60-13-7) can’t surpass the point total of the great Canadiens team. Montreal finished 60-8-12 that season, for 132 points.
