Valley News Wins Bid For Legal Ads

The Spokane Valley News, circulation 2,897, is Spokane County’s “official newspaper.”

County commissioners Tuesday awarded all county legal notices for one year beginning July 1 to the Valley News, which submitted the lowest bid of four newspapers.

On six sample ads submitted by the county purchasing department, the Valley News bid $92.50; the Cheney Free Press, $143.06; the Valley Herald, $124.65; and The Spokesman-Review, $263.12.

The current contract belongs to the Valley Herald, while in years past it was awarded to The Spokesman-Review.

Because each county department has different statutory requirements for advertising, The Spokesman-Review with its much-larger circulation still prints many of the county’s legal notices, particularly election notices.

The Spokesman-Review is expected to receive $58,000 for the 1995-96 fiscal year and the Valley Herald $65,000.
