Sonics Center’s A Joke

Associated Press

Frank Brickowski makes no bones about what he brings to the Seattle SuperSonics.

Acquired in a trade with Sacramento, the veteran 6-foot-9 center provides 52-percent shooting, an array of post moves, muscling defense and a well-earned reputation as a practical joker.

“I’ve been known to play a few jokes,” Brickowski admitted. “I think you have to keep it light.”

Sonics assistant Bob Weiss, the head coach at San Antonio when Brickowski played for the Spurs, says the Sonics ball boys better beware.

“Any time you see a ball boy taped to a table and Frank’s around, you have an idea he might be the guy who did it,” Weiss said.

“I would classify him as a free spirit. He loves to have fun, but when he steps on the court he’s a real professional and a competitor.”

The 36-year-old Brickowski, who started his NBA career in Seattle in 1984, was traded to the Sonics Monday by Sacramento for Sarunas Marciulionis and Byron Houston.
