G-Prep Wins Gsl Battle With Titans

Their undefeated season fading away, the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups regrouped Tuesday for a 5-15, 9-15, 15-6, 15-11, 15-4 Greater Spokane League volleyball win at University.

Molly Bloom had 13 digs and four aces, and Brandy Barratt 20 kills and four blocks for G-Prep (5-0), which turned around the match with better passing and defense. Story Tombari added 47 digs for the Bullpups.

U-Hi (3-2), fresh off of knocking Ferris from the unbeaten ranks, received 23 digs and four aces from Sally Jamison and 15 kills apiece from Devon Bakken and Kristina McAuley.

At Ferris, the Saxons (4-1) rebounded with a 15-4, 15-3, 15-8 win over Central Valley as Molly Jones had 24 assists, three aces and three blocks.

Lea Ruhl added eight kills and three blocks for Ferris. Carrie Sanders had six kills and Jessica Sackmann 11 assists for the Bears (1-3).

At Rogers, Tamara Van Engelen had 17 kills and seven blocks, and Aimee Wilson added three aces and eight digs as North Central (2-3) beat the host Pirates 15-4, 15-11, 15-5.

Teana Scott had seven kills and two blocks for Rogers (0-5).

Crystal Poskey had 33 assists and 12 digs as visiting Clarkston (3-0) took command of the Frontier League with a 15-10, 15-5, 15-12 win over East Valley (2-1).

Amy Metcalf added nine kills and six blocks for the Bantams, the 1991-93 league champs. Anjie Blindauer had three kills and six digs, and Jenny Kann three aces and eight assists for the Knights.

At West Valley, Arin Craig had 11 kills and eight blocks to lead the defending league champion Eagles (2-1) over new league member Riverside 15-5, 19-17, 15-9.

WV’s Amy Gelhausen had 15 assists. Erin Nelson led the Rams (0-2) with seven kills, seven aces and seven digs.

At Colville, 6-foot-1 outside hitter Paige Quistad had nine kills in 10 attempts as the host Indians (1-3) topped Cheney 15-10, 15-12, 15-6.

Jennifer Quimby added nine aces and 12 assists for Colville. Cheney’s Christine Reagan had 11 assists and six blocks.

Girls soccer

Melanie Erickson’s goal from 25 yards out highlighted Deer Park/Riverside’s 4-0 Frontier League win at West Valley (1-1-1).

Erickson scored at 27 minutes, moments after Jill Thompson gave DP/R (3-0) a 1-0 lead. Katie Bowers and Karen Johnson scored second-half goals.

At Medical Lake, Shameem Mahmood’s goal near the 64-minute mark lifted the host Cardinals (1-2-0) to a 2-1 league win over Pullman (0-3-0).

The Greyhounds led most of the way as Michelle Wahl scored an unassisted goal early in the match. But Leah Meltzer tied the match. Then, 2 minutes later, Jeni Duckett fed Mahmood for the decider.

At Colville, Lisa Anderson scored three times to lead visiting Cheney (2-0) to a 7-0 win over the Indians (0-2).

Shelly McGrew added two goals and an assist for the Blackhawks. Jamie Strong had 14 saves for Colville.
