Pedestrian Hit, Killed In Valley

A pedestrian died after he was struck by a car Monday night on Pines Road in the Spokane Valley.

Arthur G. Hepton, 85, of Spokane, died at Deaconess Medical Center of massive head and abdominal injuries, the Washington State Patrol said.

The driver, Ivonne M. Freas, 31, also of Spokane, was headed north in the 400 block of North Pines in the right lane at 8:48 p.m. when her car struck Hepton, who was heading east.

Freas won’t be charged because authorities ruled she wasn’t at fault, WSP Sgt. Chris Powell said.

“The pedestrian was crossing the street in midblock,” Powell said.
