Weyerhaeuser Buying Hardwood Mill, Kilns
Weyerhaeuser Co.’s hardwood division is buying Diamond Wood Products, a privately owned hardwood-lumber company based in Oregon, Weyerhaeuser announced Wednesday.
Northwest Hardwoods, the division acquiring Diamond Wood, will buy its hardwood sawmill and dry kilns in Eugene, Ore.; a hardwood sawmill in Garibaldi, Ore.; a chip-manufacturing operation in Coos Bay, Ore.; and about 9,000 acres of Oregon timberland.
Terms were not disclosed.
The sawmills’ operating capacity is about 85 million board feet. Diamond Wood employs about 300 people.
The facilities are operating at excellent levels, said Arnold Curtis, president of Weyerhaeuser’s Hardwood Business Group. Upgrades and improvements will be made over time, he said.
