Silvernail Honored By Pac-10
Sarah Silvernail, a junior middle blocker at Washington State University, was named the Pac-10 Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for Aug. 28 to Sept. 4.
Silvernail tallied 52 kills and hit .400 over four matches as WSU won the Cougar Challenge Sept. 1-2 in Pullman, Wash.
Prep Volleyball
Freshman Jamie Himes recorded seven kills and 10 digs to lead St. Maries (2-0 league, 4-1 overall) past visiting Moscow (0-1, 1-4) 15-3, 15-0 in an Intermountain League game Monday night.
In other action, J.C. Bogrig had six kills and two blocks as visiting Priest River beat Bonners Ferry 15-11, 15-12.
Sarah Peterson had four kills and two aces to help Falls Christian Academy past visiting Clark Fork 15-11, 15-12.
Janelle Baillie had nine kills and Casey Magnus served four aces as Kellogg downed Wallace 15-12, 5-15, 15-2 in Kellogg.
Soccer
Jenny Well scored three goals to lift Sandpoint over visiting West Valley 5-4 in a non-league contest.
Cross Country
The Lake City boys overcame Chris Cole’s winning time of 17:44 to defeat Coeur d’Alene 23-38 at Farragut State Park.
The Timberwolves also prevailed on the girls side, beating the Vikings 27-31. Coeur d’Alene’s Kari Newby had the best overall time at 23:11.
