Bulldogs Down Eagles To End Streak

Gonzaga University climbed into the win column for the first time in five outings with a 15-9, 15-9, 9-15, 15-8 triumph over Eastern Washington University at the Martin Centre in the season opener for the visiting Eagles.

Spokane’s Wendy Wilson led the Bulldogs with 10 kills, while Hedy Safranski had nine kills and 15 digs.

Kim Exner paced the Eagles with nine kills, while Jaime Dotson had 13 digs.

Sarah Silvernail, a junior middle blocker at Washington State University, was named the Pac-10 women’s volleyball player of the week for Aug. 28 through Sept. 4.

Silvernail scored 52 kills and hit .400 over four matches as WSU won the Cougar Challenge Sept. 1-2 in Pullman.

GSL Volleyball

Sarah Hiss had 15 kills and Ingrid Lindeblad added 21 assists as defending GSL champion Lewis and Clark defeated University 15-12, 15-12, 7-15, 15-9 Monday night at U-Hi.

Devon Bakken notched 17 kills and seven aces for the Titans, while teammate Angel Whalen had 46 assists.

In other action, Joene Heimbigner had six blocks, 13 kills and 13 assists to lead visiting Shadle Park past Mead 16-14, 10-15, 15-13, 15-12.

Andrea Carnahan had 20 assists and teammate Mandy Larson chalked up 17 digs for the Panthers.

At Gonzaga Prep, Brandy Barratt had 20 kills and seven blocks as the Bullpups topped Rogers 15-7, 15-11, 12-15, 15-10.
