375,000 Scarves Are Too Flammable

Compiled From Wire Services

Hundreds of thousands of Indian-made sheer rayon and rayon-blend ladies’ scarves are dangerously flammable and should not be worn, the Consumer Product Safety Commission warned today.

The agency and 17 importers are recalling 375,000 of the chiffon scarves because they violate the federal Flammable Fabrics Act by burning faster than a sheet of newspaper.

They are all labeled “Made in India” and “100 percent rayon” or “65 percent rayon/35 percent metallic.” The vast majority carries the “Fashionique II” label.

The recall is the largest by the commission involving clothing.
