Marcella Fremo Newport, Wash.

Graveside service for Marcella Anne Fremo, 91, was held Friday at Newport Cemetery. Mrs. Fremo died Wednesday.

She was born in Lewistown, Mont., and graduated from high school there.

She worked as the head housekeeper for Florence Hotel in Missoula for 21 years.

She retired and moved to Newport in 1978.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Risley and Marjorie Richter, both of Newport, and Shirley Spencer of Missoula; one brother, Frank Dusek of Stanford, Mont.; three sisters, Marie Blackman of Missoula, Anne Krivanek of Lewistown and Aurella Snow of Fremont, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Helen DeRusha-Klein Spokane

Vigil for C. Helen DeRusha-Klein, 86, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. DeRusha-Klein died Thursday.

She was born in Farmington, Mont., and was a longtime Spokane resident.

She taught school in Choteau, Mont., and moved to Spokane in 1938 with her first husband, Earl DeRusha.

She was a volunteer with Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary for more than 30 years. She also volunteered with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Pushy Grandmas program, and participated in St. Francis Xavier Altar Society and choir. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group for many years.

Her first husband, Earl DeRusha, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh Klein; two daughters, Ella Berg and Joanne Nortell, both of Spokane; one son, Rodney DeRusha of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

William ‘Shorty’ Bowman Usk, Wash.

Funeral Mass for William Franklyn “Shorty” Bowman, was held Thursday at Kalispel Community Hall in Usk. Burial was at Kalispel Cemetery No. 2.

Mr. Bowman, a 39-year Usk resident, died Tuesday at home.

He was born in Artesia, N.M.

He served in the Army during World War II and had worked on an oil rig, in mines and as a logger.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Louise; 10 daughters, Cecile Andrews and Yolanda Rocha, both of Spokane, Veronica Brown Eagle of Seattle, Karen Martin of Bellingham, Wilma Cullooyah, Christina Stigall, Victoria Bowman and Betty Jo Piengkham, all of Usk, Connie Bowman of Coeur d’Alene, and Dixie Nush of Sandpoint; two sons, Loren Bowman of Usk, and Ernie Bowman of Sandpoint; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie Weitensteiner Spokane

Vigil service for Marie Weitensteiner, 91, is set for 7:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with her son, the Rev. Joseph Weitensteiner co-celebrating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Weitensteiner, who died Wednesday, was born in Germany.

She was a homemaker and was a founding mother of Morning Star Boy’s Ranch.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Immaculate Heart Retreat House Madonna Auxiliary, and Third Order of St. Francis.

She is survived by three sons, William Weitensteiner of Boise, the Rev. Joseph Weitensteiner of Spokane and John Weitensteiner of Kennewick; one sister, Anna Sold of Germany; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

August Descheemaeker Spokane

Service for August G. Descheemaeker, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Descheemaeker died Monday.

He worked at Lakeland Village for many years and retired as a supervisor.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 272, Electa Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Vivien Descheemaeker; one stepson, Ric Carlos of Hermiston, Ore.; one sister, Mary Burch of Spokane; and one granddaughter.

James Marks Fish Lake

Service for James L. Marks, 50, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at D.J.’s Restaurant at Fish Lake, where he had worked. Riplinger Funeral Home in charge of cremation.

Mr. Marks, who was born in Missoula, died Wednesday.

He had lived at Fish Lake and Spokane for 20 years. He had also worked as a horse trainer.

There are no surviving family members.

Francis Sijohn Wellpinit, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Francis R. Sijohn, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Spokane Tribal Longhouse in Wellpinit. Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tribal Social Hall in Desmet, Idaho. A second funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Mission in Desmet with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Mission Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sijohn, who was born in Plummer, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Road Division as a heavy equipment operator. He was also a cattle rancher and raised racehorses on the Coeur d’Alene and Spokane Indian reservations.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe of Indians and was a traditional leader. He was a lead singer with the Pierced Heart Drummers and Singers.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Chris Sijohn; two sons, Cliff Sijohn of Plummer, and Jim Sijohn of Wellpinit; two brothers, Ike and Henry Sijohn, both of Plummer; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Helena Streich Elk

Service for Helena Streich, 78, was held Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Streich, who died Tuesday, was born in Marlin, Wash.

She was a homemaker and had worked briefly at Leo’s Studio and Save More Foods.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Ramm, who died in 1968, and Reinhold Streich, who died in 1979.

She was a member of Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Dassow of Elk, and Lorena Waldron of Chattaroy; three sons, Duane Ramm of Kettle Falls, Wash., Loren Ramm of Brush Prairie, Wash., and Gerald Ramm of Spokane; one brother, Ernest Lentz of Bremerton; one sister, Lydia Umbaugh of Leesburg, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Michael Kienholz Spokane

Service for Michael W. Kienholz, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Valley Assembly of God Church in Veradale. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kienholz died Friday.

He was born in Edwall, Wash.

He graduated from high school in Harrington, Wash., and from Glad Tiding Bible College in San Francisco.

He ministered in Oregon as an Assembly of God minister. He worked as a farmer for many years and retired from Georgia-Pacific in 1965.

He was a deacon and adult Bible teacher at the Assembly of God Churches in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and in Newport, Wash.

He had lived in Spokane for 19 years and was a member of Valley Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Charles Kienholz of Boring, Ore.; one daughter, Margaret Hoague of Hermiston, Ore.; two brothers, his twin, Bernhart Kienholz of San Diego and Walter Kienholz of Port Orchard, Wash.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Assembly of God Church Building Fund.

Mary Wilson Spokane

No service will be held for Mary Jo Anne Wilson. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson, 57, died Wednesday.

She was born in Newport, Wash., and had lived in Spokane since 1956.

She graduated from Spokane Community College and worked as a registered nurse.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Wilson; three sons, Kevin Henderson, Dan Froehlich and Jason Wilson, all of Spokane; two daughters, Kim Manley of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jane Froehlich of Forestville, Md.; her father, John Crysler of Spokane; one sister, Melva Nelson of Newport and six grandchildren.

Dorothy Harding Sprague, Wash.

Rosary for Dorothy Mae Harding, 72, will be at 7 p.m. today at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Sprague. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Cremation will follow. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harding, who was born in Walla Walla, died Friday.

She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in hospitals in Davenport, Odessa and Ritzville, Wash. She retired from Ritzville Hospital in 1980.

She and her husband, Robert, moved to Sprague from the family farm in 1985.

She was a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Sprague and Sprague Women’s Club.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Harding; four sons, Thomas and Joseph Harding, both of Sprague, Wash., Douglas Harding of Spokane, Donald Harding of Spokane; one brother, William Watters of Tacoma; two sisters, Margaret Reierson of Spokane, and Florence DeYoung of Beaverton, Ore., and 10 grandchildren.

Lily Jackson Pocatello, Idaho

Private family service was held Tuesday for Lily A. Jackson, 84, who died Aug. 24 in Pocatello. Coffelt’s Funeral Service in Sandpoint was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Rapid City, S.D., and later moved to Chicago, where she married Harold Inge.

They later moved to California and her husband preceded her in death in 1965.

She enjoyed dancing.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include one son, Bob Inge of Sandpoint; two brothers, Art Johnson of Wisconsin, and Herb Johnson of California; and two grandchildren.

Ella Pitcher Hammar Rexburg, Idaho

Graveside service for Ella D. Pitcher Hammar, 86, will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hammar, who was born in Smithfield, Utah, died Wednesday.

A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she married Samuel J. Hammar in 1934 in the Logan Temple.

She served the church in many capacities, including as a past Relief Society president and also served a proselyting mission to the Northwestern states.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include three sons, Don of Rexburg, and Sam and Glen, both of Seattle; daughter, Mary Johnson of Boise; sisters, Elaine Carlson of Utah, and Doris Aston of Rupert, Idaho; brother, Leo Pitcher of Utah; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Walter Borley Rathdrum

Memorial service for Walter “Tiny” Borley, 72, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Borley, a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident, died Thursday at home.

He was raised and educated in Coeur d’Alene and married Dorothy McFee in Coeur d’Alene in 1941. They divorced and he married Janice Pool in 1963.

His second wife died in 1985 and he retired.

Later that same year, he married June Cain.

He worked in area mills and road construction.

He had also been a rodeo clown and stock car racer.

Mr. Borley was a member of the Operator Engineers Union Local 370, the Masonic Lodge 24 AF and AM, the Scottish Rite, the Shrine and the Eagles Lodge Aeries 486 and 4080.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, at home; son, Jack Borley of Rathdrum; daughters, Alohae Walton of Coeur d’Alene, Judi Woempner of Rathdrum, Carol Diemert and Jill Anderson, both of Rathdrum; stepsons, Jim Pool and Rod Davis, both of Silverton, Idaho; stepdaughter, Kathy Pool of Missouri; brothers, Vernon of Coeur d’Alene, Richard of Pomeroy, Wash., and Donald of Post Falls; sisters, Darlene Prosser of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Betty Miner of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Arlene Meyers of Washington; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
