Hearing Topic Will Be New Fred Meyer

A proposal by Fred Meyer Inc. to build a large store at Division and Hastings will be the highlight of a county zoning hearing today.

Several projects proposed by developer Harley Douglass will also be considered when the county hearing examiner committee convenes at 9 a.m. in the assembly room of the Public Works Building, 1026 W. Broadway.

Fred Meyer wants to build a 156,000 square-foot retail store with a parking lot and 13 duplexes on 26 acres at the southeast corner of Division and Hastings. The land is now zoned for single-family homes and duplexes.

Douglass has three projects on the agenda:

A self-storage facility on 3.3 acres on the east side of the Newport Highway, north of Colbert Road.

A 24-unit, four-building apartment complex on 1.4 acres north of Whitworth Drive and south of College Avenue.

A 16-unit, four-building apartment complex on one acre north of Hastings, east of Hamilton Road.
