Carriers Will Pick Up Donations

From Staff And Wire Reports

Letter carriers will not only deliver mail Saturday, but also pick up food for the hungry.

More than 100 post offices and communities in Washington state will participate, including Spokane.

Before Saturday, nearly 140,000 Spokane County residents will receive informational flyers and white plastic Rosauers grocery bags along with their mail.

Residents can place non-perishable goods in the bags for carriers to pick up Saturday.

Donations could include canned soups, stews, chili, canned tuna, peanut butter in plastic jars, canned fruit and vegetables, dry soup mixes, boxed macaroni and cheese and dry milk powder.

The food will be distributed to area food banks. Donations may also be left at local post offices.
