Yakima’s Cba Title Stands As Protest Denied
The CBA on Tuesday night denied a request by the Pittsburgh Piranhas to replay a league championship game against the Yakima Sun Kings.
The Piranhas, beaten in the finals by the Sun Kings, had said the player who made the winning basket in the final game Monday was ineligible. They contended that because Aaron Swinson threw a punch and was ejected in the fifth game of the series, he should not have been allowed to play in the sixth game.
Yakima took the best-of-7 finals in six games, winning the title Monday with a 94-92 victory.
CBA spokesman Brett Meister said league officials decided after the fifth game Swinson would be fined but allowed to play Monday.
Bob Murphy, president of the Piranhas, had said
CBA rules call for any player who throws a punch to be ejected and suspended from at least one game.
Swinson, the most valuable player in the series, broke a 92-92 tie with a layup. The championship was the Sun Kings’ first in the team’s 10-year history.
