Albanian Youths Seek Jobs In U.S.

Drawn by rumors of jobs in America, hundreds of youths tried to scale a high fence surrounding the U.S. Embassy on Sunday. At least one person was injured when police fired into the air to stop them.

Witnesses said about 600 people tried to get inside the embassy compound early Sunday morning. The crowd had been building for three days after rumors had spread that the United States would issue work permits.

Many of the people, 12 to 25 years old, had come to the Albanian capital from other towns.
