Mighty Mary Triumphs

America3’s almost all-women sailing team won its first race since a man joined the crew aboard Mighty Mary, beating Dennis Conner’s Stars & Stripes by 1 minute, 36 seconds to pull into a secondplace tie in the America’s Cup defender semifinals.

Mighty Mary is 1-1 since Dave Dellenbaugh replaced J.J. Isler as the starting helmsman and tactician on Saturday to give the floundering team more experience.

Stars & Stripes, sailing for the first time this round, lost its fourth straight race. And it essentially lost the bonus point it earned for finishing second after the four round-robins.
