Wildlife Council Honors Bob Cole
Bob Cole of Spokane recently was given the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council’s Master Hunter award for a lifetime of continuous outstanding contributions to hunting and conservation.
“I don’t think any of us who have received this award think we deserve it,” Cole said. “But it’s sure nice that other people in the club do.”
Among its many other major awards, the council recognized Jim Johnson for the first Bill Rollins personal dedication memorial award, which is dedicated to people more than 50 years old who have spent much of their lives supporting natural resources with involvement, monetary support and vocal efforts.
Bill Goodnight, regional fisheries manager in Coeur d’Alene from 1973-1981, will retire this week after 25 years with the Idaho Fish and Game Department. For the past 14 years, Goodnight has been the department’s information and education bureau chief in Boise.
Goodnight helped the agency introduce statewide TV and radio programs plus several school programs focusing on wildlife.
Greg Brown, a transplanted Californian who lives in Moscow, has launched an initiative campaign against black bear hunting in Idaho.
Brown has his sights on the 1996 election for the initiative, which would ban spring bear hunting plus the use of bait to attract black bears and the use of hounds.
