Women Less Likely To Run Off With Your Cash

If you accidentally leave some money at an automated teller machine, you’d better hope a woman is next in line.

Men are significantly more likely to pick up the cash and keep their mouths shut, says a survey conducted for The Cirrus Systems, an ATM network.

When asked, 33 percent of men said they would keep the money for themselves, compared to only 22 percent of women.

“In general, women tend to be more honest than men,” David Bersoff, professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, said of the survey results.

“However, while women may be more honest, that does not mean that women have stronger morals than men, it just means they are more empathetic,” he added.

“Women may feel sorry for the person who lost the money, whereas men might act more impulsively.”

States of bliss

More than three out of four people in the Mountain states - which include Idaho and Montana - are “extremely” or “very” satisfied with where they live, according to a new study.

The region’s 78.2 percent showing ranks second only to the 81 percent posted by the West North Central states (Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, the Dakotas and Kansas), reports Decision Analyst Inc., a national marketing firm.

Pacific states, including Washington, are closer to the bottom of the barrel at 55.8 percent - thanks, of course, to California.

The only worse scores were 50.4 percent in New England, and 47.8 percent in the Middle Atlantic states (Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey).
