Main Street Improvements Go To Polls Tuesday

From Staff And Wire Reports

Colfax voters decide Tuesday whether the city should spend up to $325,000 toward a $4.3 million Main Street improvement program.

The project would include street widening, new curbs and sidewalks, replacing storm drains, streets and traffic lights, landscaping and water utility improvements, said Gary Libey, a local attorney and member of the city’s Main Street Enhancement Committee.

At least 567 voters - 40 percent of the turnout for the last general election - must cast ballots to validate the vote, and then 60 percent of the voters must vote yes for it to pass.

If approved, city funds would be raised through a bond issue. Another $2.9 million would come from the state Transportation Department and the final $1.1 would be raised through state and federal grants
