Peso Falls Again

The peso hit a historic low of 7 to the dollar in midday trading on currency markets Monday, but rebounded slightly by afternoon.

The peso was trading at 6.53 to the dollar two hours before the markets closed. The previous record close of the peso was 6.305 to the dollar, reached on Friday.

The peso has lost about half its value since Dec. 20, when the Mexican government relaxed controls.
