Microsoft Delays Shipping Windows
Microsoft Corp. has delayed its July 7 shipping date of Windows 95 to personal computer makers, a person familiar with the situation said.
That means computer makers might not be able to install the longawaited operating system in PCs manufactured and shipped for the fall shopping season, and that has computer makers worried, the person said.
It’s not clear how much of a delay is involved, and therefore precisely how long it will be before PC makers can ship their new models with Windows 95 installed.
Microsoft says that it still intends to have Windows 95 ready for sale at retailers by August 24.
All the major computer makers planned to install Windows 95 in new models, including Compaq Computer Corp., International Business Machines Corp., Packard Bell Electronics, Hewlett- Packard Co. and others.
