Pacific Bell Plans To Eliminate 500 Jobs

From Staff And Wire Reports

Pacific Bell on Tuesday announced plans to eliminate 500 positions as part of a restructuring to save $32 million in annual costs.

Effective July 1, the company plans to move from a geographic to market-based structure, dividing employees by the type of service or customer: business, wholesale, information technology, payment and sales.

Of those eliminated, 380 will be management and 120 will be nonsalaried, mostly represented by the Communications Workers of America.
