Council To Hear Sewer, Water, Street Plans Proposal To Reduce Speed Limits On Some Streets Also Scheduled

Gaze into the crystal ball of city services.

That’s what Spokane Council members will do tonight when they hear from department heads about six-year programs for sewers, water and streets.

The reports detail the improvement and maintenance needs of the services, as well as how those might be funded.

The council’s briefing starts at 5:30 p.m. in the fifth-floor conference room of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers.

Also tonight, the council will consider:

Lower speed limits on several neighborhood streets.

An agreement with the Spokane Transit Authority that allows the city to assign a police officer to the new downtown Plaza. STA plans to pay the city $26,000 for the first six months and $61,000 the next 12 months.

The city will use the money to hire another officer.

Decide whether to allow a work-release facility at 720 N. Monroe.

Consider a $34,327 contract with an Indianapolis engineering firm for a parking lot financial feasibility study. The city is planning to buy the River Park Square parking garage.
