School Officials Will Decide Remedy For Crowded Schools

From Staff Reports

School officials will decide Tuesday how to fit the growing elementary student population into its limited number of schools.

Growth in the Ramsey and Hayden Meadows attendance zones has forced the Coeur d’Alene School District to find a way to move children from those schools into others.

One idea is to take all the kindergartners from Ramsey Elementary and send them to Hayden Lake Elementary, which is inheriting portable classrooms from Coeur d’Alene High School.

That plan was a compromise made between a group of parents and administrators, but several other parents objected vociferously at the last school board meeting.

Administrators say the best solution is to build another elementary school on the west side of town. But that is several years away, and Ramsey Elementary will be too crowded this fall.

The school board will meet at 7 p.m. at the administrative center, 311 N. 10th St.
