Labonte On Pole

Compiled From Wire Services

Terry Labonte shattered the Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International track qualifying record in winning the pole for Sunday’s Lysol 200, the only road course event on the NASCAR Busch Grand National stock car racing schedule.

Mike McLaughlin, a local favorite from nearby Waterloo, N.Y., qualified second at 115.156 in a Chevrolet, followed by Spokane’s Chad Little at 115.068 in a Ford.

At Portland, Jacques Villeneuve, a 24-year-old Canadian and the PPG IndyCar World Series points leader, was fast from the first lap as he took the provisional pole for Sunday’s Budweiser-G.I. Joe’s 200 at Portland International Raceway.
