Chemist Sentenced For Race Hate Crime

Compiled From Wire Services

A chemist who produced a scientific paper claiming the gas chambers at Auschwitz were a Jewish hoax was sentenced Friday to 14 months in jail for incitement to racial hatred.

Otto Ernst Remer, 82, a former general and Hitler loyalist, paid Germar Scheerer to test brick in the Auschwitz gas chambers for a deadly cyanide compound used in the Holocaust gassings. Scheerer’s 1991 report asserted that since he found none, they couldn’t have been used to kill Jews.

The cyanide compound Zyklon B was used to kill hundreds of thousands of the 6 million Jews slain during the Nazi Holocaust.

Scientists say the compound quickly decomposes and disappears. Scheerer was fired from his job at the prestigious Max Planck Institute after publishing the report.
