Western Washington University has applied for provisional membership in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In all sports except football, Western competes in the Pacific Northwest Athletic Conference.

U.S. National Team Rider Karen Kurreck won the Yakima Pocatello 20-mile circuit cycling at the PowerBar International Women’s Challenge in a time of 52 minutes and 30 seconds at Pocatello, Idaho.

In earlier action Thursday, Team Saturn won the 25-mile Yakima Massacre Rocks Team Time Trial with a time of 56 minutes and 25 seconds retaining the overall lead in the team competition. The event resumes today with a 90.3-mile race.
