Boys Report Man Chased Them
An attempted abduction may have occurred in Deer Park last week, sheriff’s deputies said.
A woman told deputies her 7-year-old son was riding his bicycle with a 10-year-old friend about 8 p.m. Friday near Swinyard Park.
An old blue van drove through the park before returning a few minutes later and parking on the side of the street. When the boys rode their bikes by the van, a man got out and started chasing them, deputies said.
The boys were able to ride away.
The man was described as white, about 35, and 5-foot-8 with brown hair.
Man arrested at park
A Spokane man was arrested by a park ranger as he left Riverside State Park on Monday, sheriff’s deputies said.
Randy Holland, 26, was leaving the Circus Day area off Nine Mile Road shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday when a ranger pulled him over on a routine traffic stop.
The ranger, Frank Dorman, discovered there was a warrant outstanding for Holland’s arrest for failure to appear in court on a prior charge. Dorman radioed sheriff’s deputies, who found a small amount of methamphetamine inside Holland’s car.
Holland, who gave an address of 1929 W. Pacific, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge alleging possession of a controlled substance.
