Worley Fisherman Found Dead In Lake; Heart Attack Possible Cause

The body of a 73-year-old Worley, Idaho, man was found floating facedown in southern Lake Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday, near his docked fishing boat and bucket of fish.

Kootenai County sheriff’s Capt. Ben Wolfinger said investigators don’t suspect foul play in Arnold Gunn’s death.

“Really, we think he probably had a heart attack,” Wolfinger said. An autopsy will be performed today, he said.

Gunn’s wife said he had openheart surgery five years ago.

Gunn had apparently just arrived back at the dock when he fell in the water. A bucket of fish was sitting on the dock alongside his boat.

“He was docking,” said Gunn’s wife, Cleone Gunn. “He had one side of the boat tied up.”

Her husband, an avid angler, had gone out fishing late Monday evening after the rain stopped, she said. When he didn’t return, she phoned a neighbor, Wolfinger said. The neighbor found the body at the dock in Carey Bay, he said.

Local residents pulled Arnold Gunn’s body out of the water. He wasn’t wearing a life preserver, Wolfinger said.

The Gunns moved to Conklin Park 15 years ago, shortly after Arnold Gunn, a retired bakery truck driver, retired.
