Okanogan Gets Weather Radio

From Staff And Wire Reports

Residents of the Okanogan Valley can now get around-the-clock radio weather reports from a new public transmitter near Omak.

Officials said the new weather radio will warn farmers and others about severe weather before it occurs. The station also will repeat its weather forecasts.

The broadcasts can be heard at 162.525 megahertz on police scanner radios.

The local fruit industry, public utility district and Okanogan County commissioners raised money for the transmitter, which was installed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Tunk Mountain northeast of Omak.
