Harried Passengers Cruise Into Ecstasy

Associated Press

The 1,760 cruise-ship passengers who saw their vacation disrupted by a shipboard fire were finally moved Tuesday to a newer liner, one with air conditioning and an open bar.

The passengers and 800 crew members of the Celebration were taking a mini-cruise through the Bahamas aboard the Ecstasy before returning to Miami on Thursday, Carnival Cruise Lines announced.

The Celebration left Miami on Saturday for a weeklong Caribbean cruise. The ship had been without air conditioning and hot food since a fire Sunday cut their ship’s power and propulsion and left it adrift near the Bahamian island of San Salvador. Carnival canceled the Ecstasy’s scheduled cruise and dispatched it to rescue the stranded Celebration passenger and crew.
