Dollar Surrenders Some Ground
The dollar dipped Tuesday in a market still fearful of intervention and awaiting word about whether American interest rates might be cut to help the slowing economy.
“The basic movement has been sideways for the dollar,” said Diego Giurleo, manager of corporate trading at the New York branch of the Royal Bank of Canada.
In late New York trading, the dollar was quoted at 84.49 Japanese yen, down from 84.65 late Monday.
The dollar also was changing hands in New York at 1.3905 German marks, down from 1.3978.
