Stars Girls Tune Up For Nationals
The Spokane Stars’ U-18 AAU girls basketball team has five practice games in the next week to prepare for the national tournament in Dallas.
Wednesday the Stars play KXLYTV at 7:30 p.m., Thursday it’s KREM-TV at 7 and Friday it’s KHQ-TV at 7:30. All games are at University High School.
The other games, both at 7 p.m. at U-Hi, are Sunday against a college all-star teams and Monday against the U-16 Stars.
Both the U-18 and U-16 teams leave next week for their national tournaments.
The U-18 team includes former Central Valley player Tanya Kirk, recent graduates Kelly Bartleson of Shadle Park, Jen Kerns and Melissa Dodge of Lake City in Coeur d’Alene, Nikki Fields of Cle Elum, Takeyah Jackson of Franklin in Seattle and Lynne Overly of Centennial in Boise. Underclassmen include Tricia Lamb of St. JohnEndicott, Lynn Brown of Liberty Bell and Alli Nieman of Sandpoint.
Bi-County had the star, but Whitman County won the war in Saturday night’s boys basketball allstar game between the Class B rivals in St. John.
The Walla Walla Community College-bound trio of Cory Goll, LaCrosse-Washtucna, and Beau Hilty-Jones and Rob Tiegs, both Garfield-Palouse, led Whitman to a 108-87 victory.
Goll and Hilty-Jones scored 19 points each and Tiegs 18 to more than offset the 35 tossed in for the Bi-County boys by Ryan Floyd of Sprague-Harrington.
