Two New Principals Are Minorities
Spokane School District 81 named two new principals Wednesday. Both men are minorities. Albert Fein, now principal at an elementary school in Monroe, Wash., will succeed Gloria Morris at Lincoln Heights Elementary. Morris is retiring.
Phil Newsum, now assistant principal at Glover Middle School, was promoted to principal. Current Principal Alison Olzendam was transferred to Chase Middle School.
The appointments will help the district increase its share of minority administrators. Fein is Hispanic. Newsum is black.
William Olfert, associate director of Bates Technical College in Tacoma, was named director of the Spokane Area Skills Center. He succeeds Ruth Bragg, who will head the district’s school-to-work program.
Also announced was the resignation of Area Director Joan Kingrey, who accepted an assistant superintendent position in Mead School District.
