Yanks Expected To Sign Strawberry By Weekend

New York owner George Steinbrenner is expected to finalize a deal today that will make Darryl Strawberry a Yankee by the weekend.

“It’s a done deal,” a source told The Record of Hackensack, N.J. in today’s editions. “All they need to do is work out the money.”

Steinbrenner refused comment.

Strawberry’s agent, Bill Goodstein, refused to confirm anything had been set with the Yankees, but told the paper, “I have not an iota of doubt that Strawberry will be signed by the weekend.”

Strawberry’s 60-day suspension from baseball for violating his aftercare program ends June 24.
