Reds Win Fifth Straight

Ron Gant hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Colorado Rockies 11-6 Monday night in Denver for their fifth straight win and ninth in 10 games.
Gant hit his 13th and 14th home runs to tie Colorado’s Larry Walker, who also homered, for the National League lead.
The Reds jumped on Marvin Freeman (2-3) for two runs in the second and two more in the third, and Gant’s three-run shot in the fifth off reliever Lance Painter made it 7-2.
Cincinnati raised its road record to 17-6, tops in the majors.

Montreal outfielder Rondell White earned National League player of the week honors after batting .550.
