‘Jungle Book’ Out On Video

Martie Zad The Washington Post

Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book” is now available on home video in a live-action version starring Jason Scott Lee, Sam Neill, Cary Elwes and John Cleese.

This “Jungle Book,” like Disney’s major animated hit in 1967, is about little Mowgli, abandoned in the wilds of the Indian jungle, where his jungle friends teach him to survive. The story combines adventure, humor and romance, making it a candidate for summer family viewing. The 111-minute movie lists for $22.99.

Other new summer fare for youngsters includes “Pooh Fun ‘n Games,” an addition to Disney’s Pooh Playtime series, crafted to teach co-operation and sharing while having fun ($12.99).

Kid Vision this week added two titles to its Real Animals Series: “A Day with Whales” and “A Day with Monkeys and Other Animals.” As with previous volumes in the series, each comes with a hand-painted toy of the featured animal ($12.95).

“Peanuts” has four titles in the Paramount Home Videos Peanuts summer promotion: “Snoopy the Musical,” “The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show,” “The NASA Space Station” and “The Birth of the Constitution” ($9.95 each).

Turner Home Entertainment offers three titles in the Swat Kat hitech series by Hanna-Barbera: “Deadly Dr. Viper,” “Strike of Dark Kat” and “Metallikats Attack” ($12.98 each).
