At&T;, Unions Agree On Three-Year Pact

Compiled From Wire Services

AT&T and unions representing 110,000 of its workers reached agreement Friday on a new threeyear contract, spokesmen for both sides said.

“We made substantial improvement in the areas of wages, health care, pension benefits, employment security and training and education for our members,” Morton Bahr, president of the Communications Workers of America, which represents 90,000 AT&T employees, said in a prepared statement.

The contract must be ratified by the CWA workers and 20,000 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Herb Linnen, an AT&T spokesman, confirmed the agreement and said details would be released later Friday night.

The unions said the contract will provide a wage increase of 10.8 percent over three years, plus cash bonuses and stock.

According to the unions, other highlights of the settlement include:

An improved health care plan that will replace deductibles with a $10 co-payment per visit to a doctor.

A 12 percent increase in pension benefits and the inclusion of retirees in the same health plan that covers employees.
