Allen’s Treatment Will Soon Intensify In His Battle Against Cancer
Boise State football coach Pokey Allen has entered a new stage in his fight against cancer.
Allen is to begin massive chemotherapy treatments and receive blood stem cell transplants within the next few days, said a spokesman at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, where he is being treated.
Allen, who compiled a 63-26 record and twice took his team to the NCAA Division II championship game during seven years at Portland State, was found to have a cancerous tumor in his right triceps late last fall.
Allen, who became coach at Boise State in 1993, discovered he had cancer two days after Boise State played Youngstown State in the 1994 Division I-AA championship game.
