Nit Unsure Of Garden
The marriage of the National Invitation Tournament and Madison Square Garden may be on the rocks.
Madison Square Garden has been home for NIT basketball since the nation’s oldest postseason tournament began in 1938, and the Preseason NIT has concluded in the in the arena since that event started in 1985.
Yet, no venue was listed for the semifinal and final rounds of the Preseason NIT when pairings were announced Wednesday.
“We are in negotiations with Madison Square Garden, as our previous agreement expired with the conclusion of the last postseason event,” NIT legal counsel George Bisacca said.
Sources close to the situation said the Garden’s primary competition is the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, N.Y.
