Work On Those Language Skills

Have a desire to know another language? Whitworth College will again offer summer language courses for high-achieving high school students interested in studying a foreign language during their summer break.

Freshmen, sophomores and juniors must have a minimum 3.5 GPA; seniors can get in with a 3.0 or better. The courses include Elementary French I and II; Elementary German I and II; Elementary Russian I and II; and Elementary Japanese I and II.

A school administrator’s signature is required on the registration form. The courses begin on June 19 and cost $130 per semester credit. They meet for four hours a day (8 a.m. to noon), five days a week and cover one semester of beginning college language study in just three weeks.

Strike up the band

Ready for the teen event of the summer? The third annual “Battle of the Bands” competition will take place on Saturday, Aug. 12 in Riverfront Park!

The Chase Youth Commission is looking for junior and senior high garage bands to submit audition tapes for the third annual KidsWeek “Battle of the Bands.”

Audition tapes are due June 30 and finalists will be selected to play in the competition for FUN and great prizes. In addition, there will be a “People’s Choice Award” that will be determined by the audience.
